Dear Dancers and Parents:

Welcome and thank you for registering for dance class at the Darien School of Dance. I am excited to share my passion and commitment to the art of dance with all of you. To make the dance experience more enjoyable, please review the following schedule and policies.

A complete Calendar of Events for 2017/2018 can be viewed on our website: http://darienschoolofdance.com. Fall/Winter Session I runs from September 11 to December 23, 2017.

Highlights of the schedule – Special Events:

Week of Sept 18th (presch): Bring your favorite Teddy Bear/Furry Friend to class

Oct 1 NYCBallet Field Trip- Swan Lake!

Oct 25- 31 (mom&me, presch, kinder) Wear your Halloween costume to class

Nov 23- 25 Thanksgiving weekend closed

Dec 16 NYC Ballet Field Trip – Nutcracker

Week of Dec 18th: Parent Drop in/Photo Opportunity – last 15 minutes of class

Winter/Spring Session II runs from January 8 to May 26, 2018. A recital is planned for May 20 (tentative date) with mandatory dress rehearsal prior to. There are additional costs related to the recital such as costumes and tickets. More details to follow and please see Policies on our website.

Darien School of Dance follows the same winter & spring breaks (week of Feb 19 and week of April 9) as the Darien Public Schools.  If there is a snow day and the schools are closed, we are also closed. If there is a school delay or early release we may cancel or not depending on the circumstances. I will issue an email blast as to cancellations/delays/early release and post on our Facebook page (please like us) or you may email me at dariendance@optimum.net.

Studio/Classroom Policies: Dance Attire for Mom & Me, Pre-Ballet, Ballet: pink tights, pink leotard with attached skirt and pink leather ballet slippers with strings tucked inside. Please no tutus, multi tier skirts or leg warmers. Ages 8 yrs and up may wear any color leotard. Tap combo class will also need black patent leather tap shoes (no tyettes and velcro closures required for ages 4 and 5). Hip hop jazz class will need beige pull on jazz shoes. No jewelry is allowed and hair must be pulled away from face and secured in a bun or ponytail. Please see Policies on our website for more dress code information. As requested our school is now selling dance clothing and ballet slippers (no tap shoes) for your convenience. Please let me know if you would like an order form, photos and further information on purchasing shoes and clothing.

Attendance and Make ups: It is very important to have dancers arrive on time for class. Children should not be left unattended in the lobby, restroom or hallway. Street clothes and shoes should be left in the dressing area. Please remind dancers to use the restroom before class. Sickness: If your child is sick and will miss class, please send me an email to let me know. If class is missed due to illness, please email me about making up in another class.

Communication: Please add dariendance@optimum.net to your email address book so that there are no problems with missed emails. I try to use less paper/hard copies and communicate with email throughout the year with reminders, updates, etc. We have a FACEBOOK page so please LIKE us and you will have access to updates, photos, and reminders. All updates and complete information will be on our website: http://darienschoolofdance.com.  Please take a few minutes to review the site where we go into more detail regarding the schedule, policies and notices. Notices and monthly goals will always be posted on the DSOD bulletin board just outside the studio. Please do not hesitate to call me at 203-912-4804 if you have any questions or concerns.
