Last weekend over 50 students and parents joined us for an incredible day of dance in NYC at Lincoln Center for New York City Ballet’s production of Swan Lake!
Our educational experience started with a Children’s workshop for 5-7 year olds and In Motion workshop for 8-12 year olds at the rehearsal studios of NYC Ballet at the Rose Building Lincoln Center.
The Children’s workshop was led by Teaching Artist Jennifer Tinsley-Williams, a former company member. The exiting workshop included a story time with pantomime, a sample ballet class, a sampling of choreographic movements from Swan Lake and a take home souvenir of a black or white tutu. A live pianist accompanied the class as well as teaching assistants from School of American Ballet.
The In Motion workshop was taught by 2 company members, Harrison Coll and Claire Von Enck. They talked about their personal and professional lives as dancers within the company; taught a ballet warm up and then taught the actual choreography from the iconic ballet. Workshop attendees were allowed to ask questions, and get autographs/photos. The talented Elaine Chelton accompanied the class as a live accompanist on piano.
For the actual performance we were so fortunate to enjoy Chase Finlay (Fairfield native) as the Prince and the beautiful and talented Tyler Peck as Odette/Odile. Our In Motion teacher, Claire Von Enck (photo below with DSOD students Julia Washburn and Paulina Almy), was featured in the Pas de Quatre of the Little Swans. How exciting to see her on stage so soon after our workshop.
What a lovely day of world class dance, camaraderie and joy!
PS: We are planning another amazing NYC Ballet field trip for Sat, Dec 16th to enjoy an educational workshop and attend the Nutcracker!
